A postdoctoral position available immediately in the theory group of Prof. A. Douglas Stone at Yale in the Department of Applied Physics and the Yale Quantum Institute.
The focus of research in the Stone group is complex, chaotic and disordered systems, laser physics and non-linear optics, non-hermitian physics, wavefront shaping and coherent control of optical propagation, nanophotonics. Stone is a member of the recently announced Simons Foundation collaborative team on “Extreme Wave Phenomena Based on Symmetries” and funding for this position will come from that grant, which gives significant latitude in research topics within the basic framework of the grant.
Candidates for the position should have a strong background in both analytic methods in theoretical physics, scattering theory and non-linear optics and in computational methods for optics and photonics. Quantum optics is also of interest, although not the main focus of the group. Close collaboration with experimental groups is expected. Evidence of independent and creative research ability is very important.
The duration of the appointment will be up to three years and appointment at the level of associate research scientist can be considered for highly experienced candidates.
