Postdoctoral position in quantum annealing – University of Waterloo

A postdoctoral position is available at the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo, in the area of quantum annealing with superconducting quantum devices. This position is with the Superconducting Quantum Devices group and will be supervised by Adrian Lupascu. The research is part of “Flux-based Quantum Speedup” (FluQS), a large international collaboration. Research in FluQS addresses various aspects of quantum annealing, with the aim to understand and demonstrate quantum speedup, and with a focus on hardware based on superconducting devices.

Applicants for this position should hold a PhD degree in physics or electrical engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: quantum annealing, theory and design of superconducting quantum devices based on Josephson junctions, low- temperature experiments using dilution refrigerators, microwave and low frequency electronics applied to quantum devices, and nanofabrication of quantum devices. However, we will also consider candidates with expertise in related areas, such as quantum information, atomic physics, quantum optics, condensed matter, and quantum materials, if they have a strong commitment to making the transition to a new research field. Applicants should have a strong record of publications in highly recognized peer review journals.

The appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to continuation of the project funding and performance. The salary will be commensurate with experience, and is expected to be in the range $CA 50,000 - 70,000.
