The Yale Undergraduate Quantum Computer club will on Dr. Kevin Smith of YQI for a talk about the continuous-variable quantum computing paradigm and Bosonic Qiskit!
Hybrid Bosonic-Qubit Systems for Quantum Computation
We typically think of quantum computers as devices capable of storing and manipulating quantum information encoded by an ensemble of qubits. However, the choice of using qubits as the informational building block is by no means unique. In this talk, I will discuss some advantages for one such alternative — using bosonic modes in place of (or in addition to) qubits. Furthermore, I will give a brief demonstration of Bosonic Qiskit, a recently developed software extension to Qiskit which allows users to simulate quantum circuits consisting of both bosonic modes and qubits.
