Event description:
Closing the Loop: Using Noise Characterization to Guide QEC Code Design
Noise characterization in quantum devices is not just diagnostic-it can be prescriptive. By analyzing device-specific noise features such as error spread and correlated faults as well as identifying noise mechanisms that impact on the code, we have modified proposed quantum error correction (QEC) codes to better suit the operational environment. This talk will present techniques for efficient noise characterization at both the circuit and phenomenological levels, and show how these insights have guided our QEC strategies and improved the logical error rates of our code.
