Intricate views on topological effects related to exceptional points

In the newly emerging field of non-Hermitian physics a special focus has been placed on non-Hermitian branch points, also called exceptional points (EP). This is because the non-trivial topology at these EPs leads to a variety of counterintuitive physical phenomena such as the chiral state transfer upon dynamically encircling an EP or the enhanced sensitivity to small perturbations due to the square root splitting of the eigenvalues.
In my talk I will discuss a general protocol for how to obtain a chiral state transfer while at the same time substantially reducing the complexity of experimental efforts to produce this chiral state conversion.
I will also give an outline of a retrofitted non-Hermitian ring laser gyroscope using the aforementioned square root splitting to boost the Sagnac effect.
