Using quantum computing technologies for dark matter axion detection
Quantum metrology techniques can be used to dramatically improve the signal-to-noise ratio in resonant cavity searches for low mass dark matter waves. In this seminar, I will show recent progress in adapting 3D transmon qubit technology to implement quantum nondemolition readout for high mass axion searches; The standard quantum limit of readout noise can thus be evaded by performing the quantum state readout in the Fock number basis rather than the Glauber coherent state basis. I will also show how to stimulate the emission of signal photons from the dark matter wave by preparing the resonant cavity detector in a quantum superposition of all possible oscillation phases.
