For the 5th year, the quantum science and art program produced in the frame of YQI’s Artist-in-Residence was featured in the International Festival of Arts & Ideas programation.

After an immersive light installation on the green, a museum exhibition, a live concert, and an in-situ art installation, we returned this year with aneducational online experience!

This year,  YQI, Yale Library Digital Humanities Lab and Juego Studio partnered to create an art & quantum science application called “ThaumCATrope”, in reference to thaumatrope, an early 19th century optical toy allowing to visualize two oposite images at the same time (like a visible quantum superposition!)

About 50 attendees came to two events, held in two “entangled” locations, at the DHLab & at YQI, to be one of the first to experience the app. They were invited to look for their lost cat, Handsome Eli, in the streets of New Haven, while they learn about quantum science, and discover some of New Haven’s hidden secrets!

During their two searchers (first a classical search, then a quantum search), they were able to experience (at least metaphorically) how quantum computers speed up computations, and find their cat much faster the second time.

You too can experience this speed-up by beginning the search here

Good luck!
