Head of a Junior Research Group - University of Cologne, Germany

At the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Cologne there is an opening for a Head of a Junior Research Group on Entangled Quantum Matter.

The group will be embedded in a vibrant research environment working on topological and correlated matter, quantum information, and driven many-body quantum systems. We expect that the group will actively participate in recently funded and planned collaborative research initiatives, in particular the transregional research center “Entangled States of Matter” in collaboration with Berlin, Copenhagen and the Weizmann Institute of Science, and the center “Quantum Matter and Materials” (QM2) a collaboration of groups in experimental and theoretical physics, chemistry and mathematics at the University of Cologne. Future research initiatives are geared towards quantum information processing and topological computational matter.

The candidate should have a strong postdoctoral research record at the intersection of correlated topological matter, quantum information, and quantum devices. She or he is expected to be able to build up a research program as the head of an independent research group (funding for one PhD student and a travel budget is provided, further funding opportunities are anticipated). Remuneration is competitive (TV-L E14 100%). The initial contract is for four years with flexible starting date. For further information please contact Simon Trebst (trebst@thp.uni-koeln.de), Alex Altland (alexal@thp.uni-koeln.de) or Sebastian Diehl (diehl@thp.uni-koeln.de).

The University of Cologne is committed to increase female employment in leading scientist positions. Qualified female applicants are encouraged to apply and will be given preference if equally qualified. Handicapped persons with appropriate qualifications are also encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants should send a full CV and a short description of possible future research projects. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For primary consideration please submit all material electronically by Nov. 17th, 2017, and arrange for two letters of references send to
