Event description:
Revisiting thermal radiation in the near field
Blackbody radiation has been known since Planck’s law. It is often taken for granted that radiation emitted by hot bodies has a broad spectrum and is not directional. It is also well known that the radiative flux has an upper bound given by sT4 where s is Stefan’s constant and T is the temperature of the hot body. In this talk, we will challenge these statements by revisiting blackbody radiation at the nanoscale.
