Event description:

In this discussion, Sarah will provide an overview of intellectually property (IP) law , focusing on the role of patent law for protecting quantum innovations and challenges specific to patenting quantum technologies. The discussion will cover requirements for patentability, explain the process of applying for a patent through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and give Yale researchers steps they can take to protect any new inventions developed in the course of their research.

Sarah Schlotter is a patent attorney at Wolf Greenfield, a law firm specializing in intellectual property law. Sarah and her team have represented Yale Ventures at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for many years, and she works closely with members of the Yale Quantum Institute to patent Yale quantum innovations. Prior to joining Wolf Greenfield, Sarah completed her PhD in Applied Physics at Harvard University, where she studied spintronics materials and nitrogen-vacancy center magnetometry for the imaging of spin textures.
